		<abstract>Conservation Units (CUs) aim to guarantee the perpetuity of biodiversity, however, periurban units suffer constant environmental pressures. The Parque Estadual Serra do Rola Moça (PESRM) in Minas Gerais State bears great loss of biodiversity annually due to forest fires. Thus, for the conservation of natural resources, satellite imagery and remote sensing applications are necessary because they provide data at different scales. For fire monitoring, for example, the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) provides daily data on the outbreaks of fires in cities as well as in CUs. Furthermore, vegetation indexes are commonly used to analyze the physiological status of plants. This study focused on the analysis of fires in the PESRM in the period from January to November 2015, using the data provided by INPE and also through images resulting from the calculation of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index - from the portuguese Índice de Vegetação por Diferença Normalizada - NDVI) of January and November Of 2015. The results of the burn outbreaks were low, as like NDVI response for the month of November, suggesting that other factors have interfered in the calculation of the index. For the analysis of fires in the studied period the NDVI was not satisfactory, due to the interference of other factors and also the low number of focus detected in the PESRM.</abstract>
